This 3-day adventure start from Hanoi with our “Terrible” tour guide to discover Ba Be National Park. Surrounded by the lush green of the forest, we hope you enjoy your time spent exploring the lakes, caves, mountains and jungles.

Ba Be National Park

Ba Be National Park: This is the perfect place for any keen adventurer. Here you can trek through the thick jungle, explore mystical caves, kayak down the rivers, and swim in the lakes. The incredible range of terrain will keep you on your toes and keep your excitement piqued.  The national park itself was only established in 1992, making it feel as if you are exploring unchartered areas. Many caves have only been discovered recently and are providing new information about the geography and biodiversity of the area.

Tribal villages

Tribal villages: The ethnic minority communities live in small hamlets throughout the and still maintain a simple way of life, living off the land and fishing from the lakes and rivers. As you adventure through the national park you will have the chance to meet the local people and discover their history and culture. The many different areas of the national park are steeped in mystery and legends, the stories handed down through many generations.

Trekking to Red Dao Village in Ba Be National Park

Hua Ma Cave

Hua Ma Cave: is not only stunningly beautiful but also has a haunting and fascinating back story. For many years this haunting tale kept many local people away, but now, those brave enough to enter the cave will be rewarded with stunning views of rock formations. Recently, developments to the cave have made more easily accessible and the 300 m climb to the entrance is well worth the effort. As you ascend into the dark recesses of the cave you are met with an otherworldly  melee of stalactites and stalagmites which appear to morph into different objects as you pass by.

Puong Cave

Puong Cave: is of the most impressive caves in Ba Be with a height of 30m and length of 300m. This large, dark cavern sits at the bottom of Lung Nham Mountain and was created by years of erosion by the Nang River. This tunnel cave looms over the river and visitors can explore the cave by boat. The dark mouth of the cave leads to a magical maze of stalactites and stalagmites which cast shadows across the tall limestone walls. This amazing hidden world is also the home of thousands of bats. The colonies living amongst nature’s sculpture are made up of an impressive 18 species.

We enjoyed a 3 day trip to Ba Be National Park with The Terrible Tour Guide Travel where we experienced an unforgettable 2-night homestay with a local family in their home in the village. On our way to Ba Be National Park, we stopped in at the Ethnology Museum where we learnt about the 54 ethnic minority groups in Vietnam. Upon arrival in Ba Be National Park, we were met by our incredibly hospitable and friendly hosts. Over the couple of days that we were there, we enjoyed a cycle ride to a waterfall and a boat trip on the river to a nearby village and cave. Our guide, Tung, spoke good English and was extremely knowledgeable about the area including the history of Vietnam and its minority groups. The best tour guide we’ve ever had! Thanks again for an unforgettable experience, Tung!

We, a family of five, went for a three day trip to Ba Be national park. It was a very special, wonderful trip. And our terrible guide Tung, highly contributed to that. He provided us with very interesting information, without an overload. We also learned to know him as very sensitive to further improve the quality of this wonderful trip. The first night we had a homestay which was ok. The place where he normally went to, was fully booked. For the second night Tung found a wonderful idyllic place with a beautiful view on the lake. The next morning at breakfast time there was a fishing kingfisher we could closely watch. The day on the lake was beautiful!
Tung also soon found out about our preferences for meals and arranged these thoughtful and very well! The journey to and from lake Ba Be was very convenient.
Thank you very much Tung for this wonderful experience!!!!

We were really satisfied with the 3-day tour in Babe national park. Our guide Tung – Joey is the best guide you can imagine. We were there for 2 days without meeting other travelers. Everything was very authentic. We stayed with a nice family in the mountains who made delicious food for us and we really had a nice evening with them. You really get to see the unspoiled Vietnam with the TTG

The tour was breathtaking, seeing all the remote villages in the park is an amazing and authentic experience. My girlfriend and I really liked the homestays :). Tung was a very good and friendly tour guide who was very knowledgeable and helped to make our trip memorable. We absolutely loved the boat ride, we were pretty much alone on the river!! Although the tour is slightly expensive as we took the private tour, it includes a lot of activities so you get what you pay for. The price can be lowered by finding a larger group. Highly recommended!

Just back from a 3-days trip to Ba Be National Park/Lake away from normal tourist paths. Landscape is wonderful and the guides were very friendly, helpful and full of local knowledge. Rice harvesting just started. I gain a little insight into the challenging hard life of minority people. I couldn’ t recommend this tour enough. Thank you for this experiences.
