WHAT TO EXPECT

Ninh Binh

Ninh Binh encapsulates so many aspects of the beautiful Vietnamese scenery in one place. It has the stunning karst peaks which rear up out of the land surrounded by flat, sprawling rice paddies and winding glassy rivers. The area itself is small, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in beauty. Located at the tail end of the Red River Delta Region, Ninh Binh features many rivers and tributaries which stray through the land collecting in lakes and pools. The still water acts as a mirror, duplicating the incredible images of the imposing peaks and dramatic skies. Although Hanoi is merely a 3-hour drive away, it is a peaceful yet powerful place far from the noise and distraction of the cities.

Thung Nang

Thung Nang is a pristine and untouched area. There’s not much human activities here, only a few people fishing in the wild area. Thung Nang is divided into 2 small valleys. The outside Thung Nang is 3 ha wide and the inside Thung Nang has a width of more than 5 ha. The valleys are connected by a cave system inside the mountain. The deeper the tourists get inside the cave, the more beautiful the setting is due to various cave systems. Some places are so low that you have to bow your head so as not to touch the stalactites on the ceiling of the cave. There are also the places so high that you need raise your eyes to admire miraculous beauty that nature bestowed on this place.

We took a 2 day journey to Ninh Binh with Tung our guide with our two children. We had an amazing adventure with biking, boating and walking. Tung took us to some great local spots for food which was great. They made an extra effort to hire two proper bikes for our kids which we appreciated. Tung was really lovely – he has perfect English and really bonded with our kids – getting them to play games, ask questions and really engage with the trip. This is a great family adventure and Tung tailored it to our children needs.
The only improvement we could think of would be that the guide helps you/advises you to get the best price when buying items from local shops and also helps you avoid scams – like the photographer (posing as a tourist) who keep asking if they can take your picture and then kind of force you to buy from them at the end of your bike ride.
Apart from this small thing our trip was perfect. Thank you Tung for making this such a special time – our kids loved the trip and they loved Tung!

My partner and I met Tung last November when we were in Hanoi and after such a wonderful experience doing a food tour with him, we decided to book another tour through The Terrible Tour Guide Travel again. This time we did a trip out to Ninh Binh for two days. We can’t speak highly enough of Tung and The Terrible Guide tours. We had an amazing time once again experiencing the food and culture of Vietnam, and feel like we have made life long friends through Tung. Thank you for blowing us away again!

My husband and I booked with Tung The TTG for the two day Ninh Binh cycling tour. I totally recommend that whatever you’re looking to do near Hanoi, you get in touch with Tung and get him to take you on tour – he knows so much about the area and Vietnam that he can tailor trips and tours exactly around what you’re looking for. Our experience was fantastic; Tung has a really authentic relaxed style and is such a positive person to be around, clearly looking to provide exceptional customer service to his guests. Tung was really flexible with the plans for the trip, but gave us a really clear steer of what would give us the greatest experience. A real highlight was being the first people in the day to experience a boat trip along the river and through glorious caves – we didn’t even see any other boats or tourists, as Tung had planned it perfectly for us (while the day before we saw the river full of boats practically knocking into each other because there were so many tourists). Ninh Binh was beautiful and we had the opportunity to really experience the peaceful and magnificent countryside. We met many local people along the way and in the evening had an incredible night with a Vietnamese family that Tung introduced us to. Don’t hesitate to book – our tour with Tung was a huge highlight of our trip and you won’t regret it.
