Hidden Trails of Ba Be National Park

Overview

Home to many species of plants and animals, the Ba Be National Park is a major tourist site in Vietnam. This 3-day tour takes you on a thrilling journey through the many attractions of this lively reserve. The park offers a wonderful sight-seeing opportunity from its freshwater lakes , amazing evergreen rainforests to its diffuse limestone formations that mirror the natural architecture of the mountainous landscape. You will discover the Islands and the inflows of Ba Be Lake, which is the largest natural lake in the country. You will also explore the Pia Booc mountain range, the sequence of rapids forming the Dau Dang waterfall, and the bat-filled Phuong cave. You will have a glimpse of the educational system with a visit to a local school in the area, experience the rich traditional cuisines and interact with the local families and ethnic groups by staying at homestays. Undoubtedly, the tour is packed with numerous picture-worthy experiences, making for incredibly focused and memorable exploration of the historical and culturally rich country.

Detailed Itinerary

DAY 01:HANOI - BA BE NATIONAL PARK (-/L/D)

Starting the tour from the bustling capital city of Hanoi, you will travel northeast to Bac Kan Province which is home to Ba Be Lake. This province is a mountainous terrain rich in culture and festivals among the minority ethnic groups resident in the area. Its major attraction is the Ba Be Lake. You will have lunch in a local restaurant, delighting your taste buds with some of the signature dishes of Vietnam. Once arrive at your homestay in Ba Be National Park, you will borrow bikes and cycle to the Tày ethnic village area where we explore an amazing cave in the mountain. The journey continues to Hua Ma cave and Silk Waterfall which is about another five km by bike . The Tay ethnic group is the second largest group of the many ethnic groups in the country. They are mostly found in the valleys and lower mountains of Northern Vietnam, especially in the Cao Bang, Lang Son, Bac Kan, Thai Nguyen, and Quang Ninh Provinces. You will enjoy a delightful dinner and stay overnight with the Tay family.

DAY 02:TREKKING BA BE NATIONAL PARK - NA NGHE VILLAGE (B/L/D)

You will head out to Coc Toc Village, ready to spend the day trekking in the great outdoors of Northern Vietnam’s hilly countryside. Coc Toc Village is home to a Tay community, an ethnic group skilled in fishing and with a predominantly fish-centred diet. The community is strikingly beautiful with its traditional stilt houses and amiable people. You will cross the Pe Lu stream and then embark on a slighy exertive uphill journey across the hilly terrain, giving you an impressive view of the countryside as you climb higher. You will encounter the H’mong people, an ethnic minority group found in the Northern mountainous provinces of Vietnam. You will have lunch here and interact with the local H’mong people. Afterwards, you will visit the stilt houses of the Dzao ethnic group, traveling through dramatic mountains and valleys. You will have dinner and stay overnight at a homestay with a local Dzao family. However, try not to overindulge in their specially made corn wine!

DAY 03:BOAT TRIP IN BA BE LAKES - HANOI (B/L/-)

After a night of rest, you will have breakfast at the homestay. You may interact further with the Dzao family and explore their colorful ethnic items of clothing before bidding them farewell and heading out for another day in the exciting outdoors. However, you will explore less exhausting terrains today that won’t leave you out of breath. You will visit a black H’mong ethnic village and then travel down towards the Dau Dang waterfall which is about 3km from Ba Be lake. This sequence of rapids stretches over a length of about 1km on the border of the Bac Kan and Tuyen Quang Provinces. It is formed by the Nang river and lies in the rocky center of two limestone formations. Afterwards, you will enjoy a boat cruise to the captivating cave destination of Puong cave. This bat-filled cave bears the indistinguishable signs of many years of river erosion and is traversed by the Nang River. After exploring the cavernous Puong cave which houses several species of bats, you will enjoy a relaxing drive back to the Capital city of Hanoi. You will stop for lunch on the way at a local restaurant. At Hanoi, you will be conveyed back to your hotel, ending the action-packed 3-day tour of Ba Be National Park.

1. How do I reserve my tours with The Terrible Tour Guide Travel?

Just complete and send the reservation form on our website, making sure that you have given us your e-mail address and phone number. As soon as we receive your request we will contact you to confirm the reservation. It is our policy to reply to all requests within 24 hours.

2. Do you have tours available on specific dates?

Almost all of our tours are daily departure. To make a booking, you must submit a reservation form. Then we process the booking and reply to you within 24 hours.

3. I don’t want to make a reservation online, what can I do?

4. Can I make a reservation directly through a travel agent?

Yes, of course if you would like to make a reservation directly with the tour operator or travel agent, you will need to contact them directly. However, we are in good position to make the offer, make the booking and run the trip as we are a local tour operator.

5. What if the preferred hotel is not available?

You will be notified via an e-mail (within 24 hours after placing your order) and we will do our best to suggest or book an alternative similar hotel based on your preferences and our experience.

6. What is the latest time that I can make my reservation?

We can only guarantee bookings made at least 3-working days (not including Sun & Public holidays) before the departure date.

7. How far in advance can I book?

You can book as far as 24 months in advance, but please ensure you remember you have made the reservation. We will charge 30% of total rate is required upon the confirmation of services require full payment 60 days before departure.
You can expect to receive the invoice as a reminder well in advance of your trip.

8. How do I make a reservation for someone else?

To complete a reservation for someone else, simply type in his or her name instead of yours for guest name. Don’t forget to use your email address to receive your confirmation information.

9. What happens to my tour booking if my flight is delayed?

Please inform us and the hotel immediately as any changes or fee will depend on the hotel policy. We will also try our best to offer you similar ground services.

10. Is it reliable to book online?

Making an online reservation is easy and safe. Just complete the secure reservations form (SSL – 128bit), making sure that you give us your e-mail address. As soon as we receive your request we will reply within 24 hours.

Every booking with us will add 1$ US to our humanitarian project to help increase development capacity for ethnic groups in northern Vietnam. At the meantime, we are focusing on helping children in remote mountainous villages in Vietnam, major destinations of our tours.

As travelers, you can join us too. Donations of unwanted clothes, books and toys are welcome and warmly appreciated. You can also take part in our regular mission trips to these hill tribal communities.
