Located 10km from Sapa town center in the southeast direction, Muong Hoa Valley is in Hau Thao Commune and is famous for green terraced fields or golden ripe rice season along with the majestic mountainous scenery.

There is not only the beautiful natural landscape, Muong Hoa Valley also has many unique cultural features thanks to the habitat of the Mong, Tay, Ta Van people. Right here, visitors will be able to visit and relax; enjoy specialties, talk with ethnic people and participate in special cultural activities such as singing and dancing.

Muong Hoa Valley is famous for the largest and most beautiful terraced fields in Sapa. Here, each season brings its own a beautiful poetic beauty. If you come here in the summer, visitors will admire the green terraced fields, gentle Hoa Stream and wild flowers altogether. In fall, Muong Hoa Valley is covered by a bright yellow – the color of ripe rice blending with the slight aroma helping the soul so peaceful. Especially,there is a rose garden near the valley blooming in red in a large area.

In addition, there is also a beautiful small stream about 15km long in  Muong Hoa Valley, flowing through the communes of Hau Thao, Lao Chai, Ta Van and ending in Ho Village (Ban Ho), it is Hoa Stream (Suoi Hoa). There are 22 small streams which are originated from the ravines, forest flowing into this stream, helping the stream flows throughout the four seasons.

In the ripe rice season, the yellow shade from the terraced rice fields shines down to the crystal clear Suoi Hoa setting off the subtle beauty of Muong Hoa Valley. For easy travel, people here have built a rattan bridge crossing the stream, attracting many tourists to stop by and take pictures.

Onweekends, tourists often come to Suoi Hoa to plunge themselves in the crystal clear stream, enjoy the comfortable and pleasant feeling and listen to the chanting stream.

Specially, around the lunar February and March, the village young people invite each other to Suoi Hoa to catch fish, chat and laugh echoingaround the valley. They use stones to throw into the stream to frighten the fishes escaping under the stone, then step down the stream to catch fish. But this is only the reason for the boys to hold the girls’ hands and exchange a loving and passionate look. In addition to the poetic and majestic natural beauty, Muong Hoa Valley also attracts tourists by the mysterious ancient stone areas interspersing with plants and terraced fields.

This ancient stone area is more than 4km long, 2km wide and there are at least 159 stones of various shapes, sizes, patterns and mysterious characters such as parallel figures, outlined circles, etc. which have not been explained yet. Therefore, this Sapa ancientstone area has become a place to come and research for many famous scientists not only of Vietnam but also from other countries in the world such as France, Russia, Australia, etc.

The whole ancient stone complexes are most concentrated in Pho Village (Ban Pho) withmeticulously carved stones with distinguished look. In particular, the most prominent forms are the human-like ones with many postures such as hand holding, people with armsstretching andhalo radiating heads, upside-down people and religious figures, etc.

The ancient stone area in Muong Hoa Valley is not only has great aesthetic value but also has many spiritual meanings. Consequently, Sapa ancient stone areawas recognized as one of the national level historical relics by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 1994.

After admiring the wonderful beauty of Muong Hoa Valleyvisitors can choose to walk to discover the daily life and cultural life of ethnic people in Lao Chai and Ta Van communes. People here are very hospitable, they will take visitors visiting some terraced fields and learning traditional farming methods.

Especially, visitors also have the opportunity to enjoy mountain flavored specialties such as dried buffalo meat, grilled stream fish, carried pork, Lam sticky rice cooked in bamboo (com lam), sticky rice, corn wine, etc. and by to make gifts for friends, relatives. If visiting here on the occasion of the new year, tourists will be lucky to participate in the festival of new year welcoming Pooc Roong with the people of Ta Van Commune.
