Day by day, every afternoon, the howls from the cave could make people in the area dared not come near.

One day at the end of the year, there was a general patrolling by. When he arrived at the bank of the Leng river, it was nearly dark. The group of men and horses decided to go to the nearby village to rest, but strangely when crossing the river, every time the horses came near the water, they turned their heads back, neighing like signaling something. At the same time from “Leo Pen,” the howl came out. Seeing the strange situation, the general called the villagers to come and explain, they said it was  the cry of the militants who had joined the king to fight against the enemy, because they tried to stay in the cave, were attacked by the enemy, so they died but could not sublimity.

Understanding the situation, the military officers immediately camped on the bank of the Leng River, butcher   horses to sacrifice to the gods. Strangely, when the sacrifice was completed, the sound of the souls in the cave also faded away and then lost. From there, people called the cave “Leo Pen” Hua Ma cave (aka Horse head), to remember the mysterious and legendary tail of the cave.

Over millions of years, time sediments created spectacular stalactites, in many special shapes of form such as flowers, lotus of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, scenes of Duong Tang monks going to Tay Truc to take sutras; scene of rocky heaving as a court in ancient time with enough all kind of civil and military mandarin … The white and black stalactites emit the shimmering colors from above the cave, and make the space inside the cave more and more fanciful mysterious.

From the foot of Co Don mountain, visitors follow the stairs on the sloping mountain slope to reach the cave entrance. Step into the cave, visitors can easily be overwhelmed by the airy space and cool air inside. Stone stalactites are formed right from the cave entrance to the end of the cave. Dozens of stone pillars about 10 – 15m high, stands in the middle of the cave, carved by the nature’s hands like the pillars in ancient temples. Compared to the caves discovered in Vietnam such as Huong Tich, Thien Cung, Phong Nha – Ke Bang …, Hua Ma cave is not less inferior to the magnitude of the millions of years old stalactites, along with sacredness and mysteries.
